I've been the owner of a bird locked since within a few weeks of them coming out. I recently also became the owner of a mini-Birdlocked last week so I wanted to finally share my experiences and opinions.
For background, I'm a almost middle-aged average build male (circumsized and average endowment) whose wife is slowly becoming his keyholder (more on this in another post maybe). While I'd love a steel belt, I don't think my wife is ready for it and I have two small children that I'm not sure I can hide it from. So my goal is to have a fairly secure device that is easy to conceal under casual clothes and does not seem too extreme for the spousal acceptance factor.
In the past, I have purchased and tried the following chastity solutions:
CB-3000 - way easy for me to get out of despite any combination of spacers and even the KSD-G2. I never tried the points of intrigue because I also found it a big too big to easily conceal and very uncomfortable because of its rigid nature.
CB-6000 - much more comfortable than the CB-3000 but I could still get out of it even when fitted with the KSD-G3. I still had problems concealing it and with the way it felt because of its rigids rings as well.
Exobelt-X1 - much more secure but still escapable even with a custom sized ring Jenny made for me. Way too huge for me to conceal and too difficult to put on compared to everything else I've tried. If I was playing hard core with my wife and could lock the device to a belt, this would be the one I'd play with as the total encasement is a big turn on.
So with those devices in my past, I was quite intrigue with the birdlocked when it was announced. After some of the initial reports were positive, I ordered one right from the manufacturer. There was a bit of initial confusion about the time it would take to arrive but that was entirely my fault for misreading or misunderstanding the web site.
My first impression of the device still hold to this day. It is a very nice trapped ball kind of device - probably the best kind. Its silicone construction makes it flexible and feels very erotic to me. I found it much more comfortable to wear and have worn it for up to a week with no problems (whereas with the CB-xxxx I was limitted to a day or two). I find that as long as I bath twice a day I can keep it clean as long as I carefully wipe after urination. I live in a very hot and humid climate so it does get a little smelly from sweat but the smell is not retained by the silicone.
In terms of security, I find it to be more secure than the CB-xxxx series on their own but slightly less secure than the CB-6000 with KSD-G3. Though I do not consider the latter a solution for me as I've never been able to wear it for an extended period of time and have ended up with some pretty nasty abrasions/blood blisters from pinching. When the device is wet either from bathing, lubricants, or even just sweat, I can remove my penus from it. It would be a bit of a struggle but it may even be possible to insert it back in but I have never tried that.
I have been able to wear the device through the night without the pain I got from the other devices. However, I do feel it is important to keep the band around the base of the testicles lubricated so that skin is less likely to get hung up and pinched. Because of its flexible nature, it is also easier to conceal than the rigid devices.
However, my wife was a little alarmed at how obvious it still seemed to her. Certain times when standing up or moving around it would end up in a position that made me look conspicuously well endowed. That made her uneasy and reluctant to have me wear out at certain times.
With that in mind, I recently purched the mini-Birdlocked in the glow in the dark color (my regular sized one was clear). The mini is almost 3/4 inch shorter and a bit narrower in the section the penus is inserted it. In my opinion, the mini has proven to be a much better choice for me. My head perfectly fits in it and the shorter length keeps me more compact and has proven to be more comfortable for me. With the larger size, I had to be careful about how much skin I slid into the tube and that was the only source of pinching that I sometimes experiences. With the mini this has been a non-issue.
In terms of concealment, the mini has definitely been easier for me to conceal though I still have to be concientous of where it is tucked and aligned. But when it does "slip out of kilter" its not as obvious as the regular size. I find the security of the device to be about the same as the regular sized one - I can definitely slip my penus out and probably painfully get it back in.
I also need to point out that for me, it is possible to orgasm in both sizes by sliding in it and squeezing. It is a less fullfilling orgasm but it is still one. I have also been brought to climax once by the application of a Hitache magic wand (after some substantial teasing).
Non this may make the device a non-starter for some people who need the absolutely chastity but for me its a compromise I can live with. While I'd truly love to not have control of myself and my relief, at the current stage of my chastity relationship with my wonderful wife, I more see the device as a physical reminder of my promise to her. Essentially, the rules I established with her when I introduced her to my desires is that when I'm wearing the device I will not masturbate or attempt to remove (except in an emergency). I have trusted her with one of my deepest fantasies so I have no desire to violate her trust in me.
Finally, the one thing I consider downright bad about the birdlocked devices - the plastic locking pin. I'm not sure if its because I wear jeans on a regular basis but I seem to break the white plastic pin every few days. Fortunately, I ordered three extra straps when I bought the first device. With my recent purchase of the mini (from KeptForHer) I bought two extra straps and was disappointed to discover that that means I received two plastic straps but only one more plastic pin. So I am down to my last pin. I can insert the lock right through the strap but that leads to it sticking out at a funny angle and digging into me or rubbing my underwear raw.
So I have been considered the feasibility of manufacturing a metal variation of the pin and possibly expanding the design to include a metal strap to go around the device (probably dipped in tool dip so it won't cut the silicone). If I have time, i may even try on the the straps that came with my Exobelt to see if its works.
In the long run, I want to also try the new Exobelt Extreme since that has a different design than the trapped ball device. Depending on where my chastity journey goes with my spouse I may move towards a metal belt or approach LockedInSteel about making some kind of belt adapter for the birdlocked not unlike what they have for the CB-xxxx devices.
In summary, as an absolute chastity device the birdlocked may not be the answer but as a fetish toy with chastity aspects, it rocks!
